Chairman did not abstain from World Cup vote - PCB

The PCB has denied that the decision to strip Pakistan of its 2011 World Cup matches, taken during an , was unanimous and that the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt abstained from voting against the move.
"The decision of the ICC Executive Board was not unanimous, because the PCB Chairman did vote against the proposal," the PCB said in a release.
Cricinfo, which reported the news among others, stands by its story.
The board also sought to quash the impression that they were unprepared and did not represent Pakistan's view adequately to the ICC. "It is also being alleged that proper preparations were not made and necessary homework was not done in representing Pakistan's point of view to the ICC on this issue," the board said. "Moreover, it may be emphasized that the issue of taking the World Cup matches away from Pakistan was never on the agenda of the meeting.
"The item of agenda under which this decision was made out of the blue related to an assessment of the general security situation for international cricket. This is why it is the PCB's stand that the decision was taken unlawfully, without proper notice and without affording the PCB a fair and reasonable opportunity of representation."
The PCB had announced that it had issued a legal notice to the ICC on the World Cup issue on May 9, three weeks after the ICC arrived at its decision. The PCB called the ICC board's decision discriminatory and legally flawed and subsequently wrote to the world body asking for the case to be referred to the independent Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) "in the interests of fair play".
The ICC, in contrast, largely remained silent on the issue till Haroon Lorgat, its chief executive, told reporters at Lord's this week that they would deal with the situation. "On the PCB issue, I believe it's better for me to say less on it," Lorgat said. "It is the subject of a dispute and we'll have to deal with it."
